LAYETTE PROGRAM
In December 1884, Mary Virginia Merrick was told about a woman soon to give birth who had no clothes for her baby. Quickly organizing her sisters and friends, Mary Virginia provided a complete layette in time for the new arrival. This was the beginning of what became the cornerstone of the Christ Child Society - The Layette Program. The program grew as more people began to make the baby items.
The Layette Program is the signature program of all 44 Christ Child Society chapters throughout the United States. A Layette consists of: 30 diapers, 2 books, hand made sweater set and afghan, stretch suits, wash cloth, towel, baby wash, bottles, bibs, blankets and onesies. Agencies and organizations identify mothers who are in need and then contact us with a request for pink, blue or unisex Layettes. Last year 109 layettes were distributed by members through our partner agencies. The value of each layette is approximately $250. Donations are gratefully accepted.
